Fourier-Transform Ghost Imaging with Hard X Rays.

چکیده
Knowledge gained through x-ray crystallography fostered structural determination of materials and greatly facilitated the development of modern science and technology in the past century. However, it is only applied to crystalline structures and cannot resolve noncrystalline materials. Here we demonstrate a novel lensless Fourier-transform ghost imaging method with pseudothermal hard x rays that extends x-ray crystallography to noncrystalline samples. By measuring the second-order intensity correlation function of the light, Fourier-transform diffraction pattern of a complex amplitude sample is achieved at the Fresnel region in our experiment and the amplitude and phase distributions of the sample in the spatial domain are retrieved successfully. For the first time, ghost imaging is experimentally realized with x rays. Since a highly coherent x-ray source is not required, the method can be implemented with laboratory x-ray sources and it also provides a potential solution for lensless diffraction imaging with fermions, such as neutrons and electrons where intensive coherent sources usually are not available.

We determine the absolute electron density of a lithographically grown nanostructure with 25 nm resolution by combining hard x-ray Fourier transform holography with iterative phase retrieval methods. While holography immediately reveals an unambiguous image of the object, we deploy in addition iterative phase retrieval algorithms for pushing the resolution close to the diffraction limit. The us...
متن کاملHard X-ray Fourier transform holography from an array of oriented referenced objects
Hard X-ray Fourier transform holography (HXFTH) is a promising method for imaging nanoscale objects, including biological molecules, with a spatial resolution of a nanometer or better. However, it suffers from low scattering intensities being available for imaging owing to smaller object size and the low scattering cross section inherent in hard X-rays. One technique to overcome the problem wou...
متن کاملNovel Methods for Hard X-ray Holographic Lensless Imaging
Holography is a coherent imaging method that provides complex-valued reconstructions of the wave field at the exit of a sample by virtue of the interference between the scattered sample wave and a reference wave [1]. Fourier transform holography (FTH) is a robust and reliable method where reconstructions are obtained by a single Fourier transform, owing to a nearby point-scatterer whose transmi...
متن کاملStatistical Limits of Fourier Transform Imaging in the - y - ray Energy Range
Recent advances in imaging techniques and position-sensitive -y-ray detectors have made feasible hard x-ray and -y-ray telescopes with arc-second resolution [ 1]. Above an energy of 100 keY, past instrumentation has been limited to a typical angular resolution of a few degrees. A -y-ray imaging device with 1 arc-second resolution would be a dramatic improvement over conventional, non-imaging in...

We report the first (to our knowledge) experimental demonstration of lensless ghost imaging with true thermal light. Although there is no magnification, the method is suitable for all wavelengths and so may find special applications in cases where it is not possible to use lenses, such as with x-rays or γ-rays. We also show numerically that some magnification may be realized away from the focal...
